Volunteer with GCLS
Our organization runs solely on volunteers. Without them, we would not exist. We need all sorts of volunteers - from helping out at our annual conference, to helping out at other events throughout the year, to helping with marketing, outreach, sponsorships, education and more.

Conference Volunteer Tasks
Bag Stuffing: This will take place from 9am to 11am on Wednesday of the Annual Conference. It basically involves stuffing conference goodies into bags for attendees. You can sit or stand. It's also a great way to meet many other people and build quick friendships. (We can whistle while we work, if need be.)
Time Keeping: This takes place during ALL Master Classes/Panels/Presentations/Author Spotlights. Time keepers MUST be altert to the time. We provide you with 3 cards to hold up at different time increments: 10 minutes left, 5 minutes left, and 1 minute left. Time keepers sit to the side of the room (but you don't have to sit by yourself) and alert speakers to how much time remains. This task involves mostly sitting. Time keepers will also distribute evaluation forms around the room before a session begins, remind the speaker(s) to announce about filling in the evaluation forms, and collect them at the end of the session and deliver them to the office.
Lifters: We need folks who have strong backs to help move boxes in and move/pack boxes to go out. You must be available Tuesday evening, 5pm - 8pm, Wednesday morning, 8am - 10 am, and Sunday after the Conference close, noon - 2pm. (Not necessarily all of tose days, but please specify which days you will be available.
Silent Auction Setup/Takedown: Setup will take place on Wednesday morning at about 9am. You will begin working with Mary Hettel at the Silent Auction table, unpacking boxes and helping to set up the Silent Auction. Takedown will occur at about 1pm on Saturday.
Registration Desk: We need A LOT of registration desk volunteers on Wednesay and Thursday and a few on Friday. It involves sitting. You will mostly be helping attendees register. Trinka Kittle will show you the ropes of how to register attendees and be there to answer any questions you have. We assign 2-hour increments to registration desk volunteers from 8:30am - 5:30pm. Registration remains open on Friday until 6pm due to the Author Autograph session.
Saleswomen: Are you an awesome saleswoman? We need a couple of volunteers to help sell raffle tickets. During Wednesday and Thursday (morning) registration. This task involves sitting or standing (whichever you prefer) near the registration desk while the crowds are registering and selling raffle tickets for author lunches and our raffle prizes.
Video: This task involves sitting and standing using video equipment. You will have to be able to stand and check the viewer of the camera, which is on a tripod. Brenda Barton will be sending out "how-to" videos to volunteers and will be on hand to help with any questions. This is a great task to have if you are already planning on attending a session anyway! A little experience with video cameras or just cameras in general is preferred.
Ticket Takers: This task takes place before Karaoke and the Awards Ceremony. You can sit or stand and it involves collecting tickets and making sure no one enters who doesn't have a ticket. It also pays a small role in security, as these volunteers must pay close attention to who is allowed in.
