Cate Culpepper Mentoring Program
We are looking for mentors ready to help the next generation of writers realize their dreams. They will be submitting a writing sample of their best work, and are excited to get feedback from experienced authors who have teaching and/or mentoring backgrounds. If you have published more than three novels, enjoy working with new authors, and have an established background in mentoring, we'd count ourselves lucky to have you on board. If you are ready to "pay it forward" please apply to be a MENTOR today!
GCLS now offers mentorships for novels and short stories. There are different skill sets necessary for long and short fiction, and we want to help aspiring authors be successful in the format best suited to their abilities. At this time we can only offer mentorships for manuscripts that are in the final stages of completion. We don't expect you to line edit their work. The submissions must be thoughtfully edited and polished, so you can focus on elements of the craft, such as story, plot, character development, point of view, and world building, rather than on spelling and grammar.
Mentoring Session Timeframes:
- The mentoring session for a novel runs for approximately 2 months up to at most, three months.
- Short story mentoring sessions will run three weeks to two months.
- Mentorships will not be formally extended. As mentors, you generously commit to that timeframe and will not be expected to provide more than that.
- We understand that life circumstance may come up that will affect the availability of the mentor and/or mentee; the mentoring program staff will facilitate and adjustment of the time frame, and possible deferment of mentorship to another date. If a mentorship is postponed, we cannot guarantee that the same mentor will be available for the next session.
