Application Form for Panel AND Author Spotlight Moderators
General Expectations of Moderators at the GCLS Conference
Ø ALL Moderators ensure that their session stays on schedule and all participants have an equal voice.
Ø All moderators are required to attend a meeting to discuss successful moderating techniques. Two options will be available from which to choose: Wednesday, July 6th or Thursday, July 7th. If you are unable to attend one of these sessions, please contact Ann Roberts as soon as possible. Non-attendance will mean that your responsibilities will be re-assigned.
Ø Panel Moderators will solicit input from their assigned panelists on the subject matter and work as a team to develop questions/sub-topics and process for a successful Panel.
Ø Panel Moderators will, based on input from the Panelists, develop a plan that includes expectations for shared airtime and how to handle panelists that monopolize the airtime.
Ø Panel moderators should have effective diplomacy skills and be able to adeptly navigate the live conversation to include all participants.
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT Moderators:
Note: Author Spotlights were previously called Author Reading-Chats.
Ø Author Spotlight Moderators are responsible to ensure that each and every author has an equal “Spotlight” – i.e. equal time reading and answering questions from the audience.
Ø Author Spotlight Moderators must be comfortable enough to politely interrupt an author and inform her that her time has expired.
Ø Author Spotlight Moderators are required to contact all of the authors in their Spotlight Session prior to the conference to review the process so they may properly prepare.
