The Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS), the leading lesbian literary organization, announces two educational scholarship opportunities for the 2019 academic year of the GCLS Writing Academy, a year-long intensive online writing program for new and established writers designed to hone their bodies of work to the highest level of excellence. Applications must be received by March 1, 2018.

The Bridge Builder Scholarship is open to young lesbian writers of color and includes a full year’s tuition to the GCLS Writing Academy and one-on-one mentoring.

The Sandra Moran Scholarship is open to all applicants and includes a full year’s tuition to the GCLS Writing Academy and one-on-one mentoring.

The GCLS Writing Academy was established in 2014. Since its inception, over 30 students have graduated the program with many of them advancing their bodies of work as newly published authors.

Over the course of the year, students attend weekly classes learning the foundations of quality writing, grammar, point of view and narrative distance techniques, creating believable characters, story arcs and tension, crafting realistic dialogue, research methods and sources, overcoming writer’s block, and preparing to be published.

“The GCLS Writing Academy has become the industry’s standard of excellence in crafting lesbian literary education. We want to make it accessible to all talented writers, regardless of socio-economic status,” said Beth Burnett, the GCLS Director of Education.
