Golden Crown Literary Society Announces
Keynote Speaker for 15th Annual Conference

The 15th Annual Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS) Conference will be held at the Wyndham Grand Downtown Pittsburgh from July 10-14, 2019 and will feature a keynote address by young adult author, Malinda Lo.

Lo is the author of several young adult novels, including most recently A Line in the Dark. Her novel Ash, a lesbian retelling of Cinderella, was a finalist for the William C. Morris YA Debut Award, the Andre Norton Award for YA Science Fiction and Fantasy, the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award, and was a Kirkus Best Book for Children and Teens. She has been a three-time finalist for the Lambda Literary Award. Malinda’s nonfiction was published by The New York Times Book Review, NPR,The Huffington Post,The Toast, The Horn Book, and AfterEllen.

Mary Phillips, executive director of the GCLS said, “Malinda Lo is a prolific writer and an award-winning author of young adult books. She has a large following and attracts a young and diverse audience and is a tremendous advocate for diversity. We’re thrilled to schedule her as a keynote speaker at our upcoming GCLS Conference as we strive to be a more diverse, inclusive organization.”

The GCLS is the nation’s only lesbian literary organization whose mission is the education and the promotion and recognition of lesbian literature. The GCLS Literary Awards, known as the Goldies, is held on the last evening of the Conference and focuses solely on lesbian content.

Malinda Lo said, “I’m honored to be speaking at the upcoming GCLS Annual Conference in 2019, and as a lesbian, I’m especially thrilled to be part of this event. I can’t wait to meet GCLS members and talk about books!”

Our mission is to increase the visibility and integrity of lesbian-themed literature. Our goals are to provide educational programs and learning opportunities to new and established authors in developing their craft, to promote lesbian literature regionally, nationally and internationally, and to recognize quality lesbian writing at our annual GCLS conference and closing awards ceremony known as The Goldies.
