From the Executive Director's Desk
Did you know that the GCLS is 100% a volunteer organization? Without the involvement of our members, the many functions of the GCLS would not be possible. For me, volunteering was the hook that led me to GCLS. I formed friendships that have sustained me in the rough times and celebrated with me in the good times. The GCLS has become my community, my village, my home.
To highlight how vital our members are one such volunteer, Mary Hettel, has been a key volunteer since 2008, soon after joining the GCLS. She first served as our Awards Administrator, then became the coordinator of our Silent Auction. Honored with the Director's Award in 2016, her efforts helped raise a significant amount of money for the GCLS. Though retired from the Silent Auction function, she still makes herself available to help where needed.
We currently need a Director of Finance, Director of Community Engagement, social media specialist, and bookkeeper. If you have the desire, the time, talent and heart to volunteer, please contact me.
All the best,

2019 SILENT & LIVE AUCTIONS - Thank you, Mary Hettel and a Call for Donations
Each year as part of the Annual Conference, both a Silent and a Live Auction occur. Thanks to the generosity of attending and non-attending GCLS members, as well as the hard work of long-standing Auction Mistress Mary Hettel, the Silent and Live Auctions have raised thousands of dollars to support scholarships, the GCLS Mission, and its Strategic Plan.
This year’s auctions bring a major change. Mary Hettel has stepped away after many years of service. Thank you, MARY! At the helm of the auctions for 2019 is Amy Techau, and all questions and issues should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What remains the same? Virtually everything else! We are now seeking your donations. Visit the Silent/Live Auction page to learn more about this year’s auctions and complete a donation form. We ask that all donations be accompanied by a donation form. This will help Amy immensely, as she is new and will be developing relationships with all those who give.
We thank you in advance for your support!

2019-2020 Writing Academy Scholarship Opportunities
Watch Pam Stewart talk about the benefits of The GCLS Writing Academy in this video.
The GCLS is now accepting applications for two of its annual scholarships, the Bridge-Builder Scholarship, and the Sandra Moran Scholarship, which cover tuition to the organization’s Writing Academy program.
The GCLS Writing Academy is a year-long intensive program for new or relatively new writers who have written at least part of a novel. In this course, students will learn the critical components of quality writing. The Writing Academy goes beyond the craft of writing and takes students through all aspects of writing and publishing a novel.
